ITINERARY

NAZCA LINES
PARACAS – NAZCA
2 days/1 night from Lima

Day 1: LIMA – PARACAS - NAZCA LINES

You will be picked up this morning from your hotel. Transfer to the bus terminal to take Cruz del Sur bus to Paracas. Check with us regarding the option of private transportation to Paracas.

A spectacular desert meets the ocean in Paracas, a magnificent stretch of coast 3 hours South of Lima.

Upon arrival in Paracas we are transferred to the Pisco airport (10 minutes from Paracas) for a flight over the Nazca lines. The flight from the Pisco airport saves you 4 hours of driving each way to Nazca.

In the 1940's German-born mathematician and archaeologist María Reiche settled in the area and devoted her life to studying the lines and figures of Nazca. She developed the theory that they were a form of calendar, symbolizing astrological signs used in religious rites by the Paracas-Nazca civilization more than 2000 years ago.

The enigmatic lines of Nazca and its mysteries fascinate scientists, archaeologists and visitors alike. The lines are stretched out in the sand of the coastal plains of Nazca covering an area of 350 square kilometers (about 135 square miles).

The flight allows you to see the geometrical, animal and humanoid markings. You will see the monkey, the hummingbird, the astronaut, the spider, the dog, the condor and others. It is believed that they were made between 300 and 800 AD.

Drive: About 3 hours to Paracas.

Flight Paracas-Nazca-Paracas: 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Overnight at San Agustin Paracas.

Day 2: PARACAS – BALLESTAS ISLANDS – LIMA

Morning tour to the Ballestas Islands; where you will see impressive rocky formations and important types of marine life. The Islands are a sanctuary to large colonies of marine birds including pelicans, boobies, cormorants, terns and gulls. There is a huge quantity of sea lions and the Humboldt Penguin also known as the Peruvian Penguin which can be seen in Southern Peru and Chile.

From the sea, you will observe the Candelabro, also known as Three Crosses, which may be related to the Nazca Lines.
